New Harm Reduction Resource Map

Written by Christian Nguyen, MPH

Resource Maps With CaptionsEarlier this summer, GLITEC released a new resource on the Bemidji Area Emergency Response website. This new resource is a map that shows harm reduction services in the Bemidji Area.

Harm reduction is a public health strategy that is focused on lessening the negative consequences of drug use by focusing on the needs of those who use drugs. This map allows users to view substance use harm
reduction resources in their area.

Harm reduction resources on the map include:

  • medication assisted treatment (MAT)
  • naloxone (which is a medicine that can reverse opioid overdoses)
  • syringe service programs
  • a combination of any of the above services (i.e., multiple resources)
  • other substance use services (public health vending machines, chemical dependency programs, counseling, etc.).

The map includes services offered by Bemidji Area Tribes and health clinics, services close to Tribal reservations, and services in urban Indian communities (Chicago, Detroit, Milwaukee, and Minneapolis/St. Paul). Users can drop a pin on the map and view services near that location.

With this map, GLITEC hopes to connect Natives in the Bemidji Area with resources to keep them safe. Keep an eye out for more maps like this in the future on different topic areas!
